BBQ Spiced Sausage Balls
We’ve made Cheesy Sausage Balls before, but what if I told you there was an even better version? This BBQ Spiced Sausage Balls recipe amps up the flavor and pairs perfectly with your favorite BBQ sauce–though if we’re being honest, they’re amazing by themselves too.
Today I’m using 2 spice mixes, one is a BBQ rub for pork that has the usual spices and some chipotle, but no sugar. The second I’m using has some brown sugar in it for a touch of sweetness. Feel free to mix and match your own favorites to find a flavor that you’ll love! There are some great options at your local boutique grilling stores, or if you’re looking for something affordable, try Costco or even some hardware stores (shout-out to Menards).
While I usually make small batch recipes for just 1-2 people, there are some recipes I like to have a little larger because they make great meal prep options for the rest of the week, or as is the case for this week, fit for a small gathering. This is one of those recipes! We’re making about ten sausage balls, so roughly 5 servings, depending on how many calories you’re looking for. Be sure to save any leftovers in an airtight container! Pro tip: if you like to endlessly snack, pre-portion servings to easily grab later. Be sure to follow me for more small batch recipes!

BBQ Spiced Sausage Balls
5 servings
Flavorful sausage biscuits with BBQ spices and cheesy goodness
Ingredients
1/2 lb sausage, uncooked
1 cup Bisquick baking mix
2 cups shredded cheddar
1 1/2 Tbsp your favorite sweet bbq spice mix
2 tsp of your favorite bbq spice mix for pork
1 tsp chipotle hot sauce
⅛-¼ cup milk or beer
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400F.
Mix all ingredients until well-combined. Tip: use a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment if you have one, or mix with your hands.
Roll into 2 inch balls and place on a rimmed greased sheet tray.
Bake 18-20 minutes, until browned and cooked through (165F).
Remove from tray and place on a plate or bowl lined with paper towels.
Serve hot
Notes:
If you don’t have a chipotle hot sauce, feel free to use your favorite instead! I like the extra smokiness the chipotles bring.
